The composer Nino Rota, recipient of two Oscars for his film scores, would have been celebrating his one hundredth birthday on 12 December 2011. His classical compositions have also generated great enthusiasm, but the cello concertos remain as good as completely unknown.
The cellist Friedrich Kleinhapl has rediscovered these works with his profound eloquence. He displays the expressive strength, charm and ingenuity of this exuberant music accompanied by the Augsburg Philharmonic under Dirk Kaftan.
