This last official Brown-Roach Quintet album has wonderful versions of Love is a Many-Splendored Thing, What is This Thing Called Love and Flossie Lou all worked carefully together in the studio by Clifford Brown (trumpet), Sonny Rollins (tenor), Richie Powell (piano), George Morrow (bass) and Max Roach (drums). This is the only recording of this Quintet to feature Sonny Rollins. The disc includes alternate takes and has been masterfully remastered. Brown's death (along with Powell) in a car accident 4 months after this album was recorded cut short a masterful career but left a legacy of influence on many jazz trumpeters in the years that followed. This is a highly recommended album.
